IOI Oleo GmbH
IOI Oleo GmbH is the German branch of IOI Oleochemical Division.
IOI Chemical’s German branch is among the leading European suppliers of oleochemical specialties. With more than 300 employees at its headquarters in Hamburg and its two production sites in Witten and Wittenberge, IOI Oleo GmbH produces and sells a broad range of oleochemical products for a large number of industrial applications.
In addition to active ingredients and excipients for the pharmaceutical industry, emollients, emulsifiers, texturizers and a wide variety of multifunctional ingredients for the cosmetic industry, IOI Oleo GmbH offers special esters and additives for products in the food segment. Processing aids and lubricants for technical applications as well as basic oleochemicals (e.g. polyunsaturated fatty acids) round off our portfolio.
Furthermore, with the production capacities at the sites in Wittenberge and Witten, IOI Oleo GmbH is the leading supplier of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) in Europe.
Our Locations
Headquarters Hamburg
The company’s entire sales activities and the central business areas of finance, controlling, human resources and IT are concentrated at its headquarters in the city of Hamburg.
Our CARE Studio, the development laboratory that was opened in 2018 for Personal Care, is also located in Hamburg. Here our experts concentrate both on the development of innovative raw materials and on new applications in the field of cosmetics. Our aim is to support our customers in increasing the popularity of their care products with consumers through the ideally tailored use of vegetable-based products from IOI. In addition to the creation of new raw materials, new textures and the optimisation of sensory characteristics of end products, the CARE Studio’s range of services also includes training for those interested in learning more about the possibilities and methods of modern formulation relating to Personal Care.
Altogether, 40 employees are based in Hamburg.
Production Site Witten
The industrial site in Witten in the southwest of the Ruhr district was originally founded in 1905 as a soap factory under the name of “Märkische Seifen-Industrie Witten”, which initially produced detergents and cleansing agents in its steadily growing production plants. Later on, the focus of production was extended to include oleochemistry in order to also produce the raw materials needed for making soap. A significant oleochemical production site for the most diverse materials based on natural fats and oils developed from these beginnings over the following decades.
Our production facilities all represent the state of the art and are operated with monitoring and process control technology. We have already been meeting the high GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards of the pharmaceutical industry since 2005 with our production processes. This also includes regular audits by the district government of Arnsberg (most recently in summer 2024) to confirm the GMP certificate and by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration – FDA – (most recently in January 2020).
Today IOI Oleo GmbH employs over 150 people at this site.

Production Site Wittenberge
At the Wittenberge site in the Prignitz region, over 100 employees produce fractionated and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) based on natural vegetable oils. Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) have also been produced here since 2006. Following the expansion of its capacities in 2010, the production site in Wittenberge is one of the largest MCT manufacturers in Europe. In addition, since 2012 the site has state-of-the-art esterification plants with multi-step short-path distillation.
Today IOI Oleo GmbH employs over 100 people at this site.

CL Analyser in Wittenberge for guaranteed top quality
IOI Oleo GmbH is one of the leading European suppliers of oleochemical specialties for almost all areas of daily life. Top quality is our credo! It is not only reflected in the product but is the essence of our holistic approach. Of course, we monitor the entire manufacturing process and test our products in compliance with the strictest requirements at various stages of the process. Thus, we have equipped our plant in Wittenberge with a so-called CI analyzer. We already analyse the raw materials and can guarantee the highest quality.
IOI Academy – When words become reality
An Award Ceremony as the Crowning Conclusion: On 14 April, the awards were presented for the best project papers on the topic of IOI Academy. Nine students from Macromedia University Hamburg had been dealing intensively with the topic of “IOI Academy” in the past months. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US: 5 YEARS IOI Oleo GMBH
In 2016, the industrial division of CREMER Oleo GmbH was transferred to the IOI Group from Malaysia and IOI Oleo GmbH with the production sites in Witten, Wittenberge and the new headquarters in Hamburg was founded. On February 16, 2021, the event was celebrating its fifth anniversary. Happy Birthday to us: Wittenberge, Witten and Hamburg.
